Our Story

The Journey

My journey as a salon owner began in 2005 with Tracy B Hair Studio, located in a 430- square-foot suite in the heart of Buckhead on Peachtree Road.

After numerous attempts to hire the right staff, I realized that while I excelled at doing hair, I struggled with running a business. I attended my first business course soon afterward. After several years of education, working as a solopreneur, and making lots of mistakes, things finally began to fall into place. Luckily, I had the opportunity to work with some amazingly talented people, and we quickly grew out of the suite. In 2015, I took on the challenge of planning and building out our current Peachtree Hills space.

With the team growing, the name Tracy B Hair Studio no longer felt quite right. I wanted the name to represent everyone who made the company grow and thrive, including the other stylists and our loyal customers. But salon names can be tricky and, if we’re being honest, often a bit cheesy.

In 2019, I attended an industry-wide business conference in New Orleans. While sitting through a presentation about the way marketing companies label us by generation, the speaker asked a question that really moved me. She pondered, “Why are we stuck in a box that a corporation created for us, telling us how we are supposed to dress and look at each decade of our life? Instead of Millennials, why can’t we all be Perennials – ever-growing, ever-lasting, enduring, persistent, and renewing?” I loved it! I was so energized to have finally found a name that felt right after 14 years of being Tracy B.

On that trip, in addition to a new name, I also brought home a raging flu. Turns out New Orleans was Ground Zero for one of the worst viruses in recent history. I was sick for a month – literally bedridden for nearly 4 weeks – and until that point I’d never missed a day of work. I’m obviously still traumatized. While I may never go back to New Orleans, I’m still incredibly grateful for that experience, as it helped me find inspiration and our new salon name.

Also, at the time, I didn’t realize how difficult “Perennial” was to spell. Sorry about that! Regardless, it truly captures the essence of who we are and the culture we’re building at the salon.

Perennial has several meanings but my favorite is this: relating to maturing, especially one whose mindset, lifestyle, skills, or interests defy generational labels and stereotypes; ageless
